Privacy Policy

Maa Recipes Pvt. Ltd. ("Maa", "we", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share your personal data when you use the Maa platform. We comply with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) of India.

1. Data We Collect

Account Data

  • Name, email address, phone number
  • Profile photo (optional)
  • Dietary preferences and cuisine interests (from onboarding quiz)
  • Authentication data (managed by Clerk — we do not store passwords)

Transaction Data

  • Purchase history (recipe IDs, amounts, dates)
  • Subscription status and billing cycle
  • Payment method type (we never store full card numbers — handled by Razorpay)

Contributor Data

  • Bank account details and IFSC (encrypted at rest, used solely for payouts)
  • PAN/GST number for tax compliance (if applicable)

Usage Data

  • Pages visited, recipes viewed, search queries
  • Device type, browser, OS, IP address
  • Crash reports and performance metrics

2. How We Use Your Data

  • Service delivery: Account management, recipe access, payment processing, payouts
  • Personalisation: Home feed recommendations, festival-based recipe suggestions
  • Communications: Transaction receipts, payout confirmations, feature announcements (opt-out available)
  • Safety & compliance: Fraud detection, content moderation, legal obligations
  • Analytics: Platform improvement, understanding usage patterns (aggregated, anonymised)

3. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:

  • Clerk — authentication and identity verification
  • Razorpay — payment processing (subject to Razorpay's Privacy Policy)
  • Cloudinary — media storage and delivery
  • Supabase — database hosting (Mumbai region, India)
  • Legal authorities — when required by law, court order, or to protect our legal rights

4. Data Retention

  • Account data: retained for the lifetime of your account + 3 years after deletion (for legal compliance)
  • Transaction data: 7 years (GST and tax compliance requirement)
  • Usage/analytics data: 24 months rolling
  • Bank account details: deleted within 30 days of account closure

5. Your Rights (DPDP Act 2023)

Under Indian data protection law, you have the right to:

  • Access a summary of your personal data we hold
  • Correct inaccurate personal data
  • Erase personal data (subject to legal retention obligations)
  • Withdraw consent for non-essential processing
  • Nominate another person to exercise rights on your behalf
  • File a complaint with the Data Protection Board of India

6. Cookies & Local Storage

We use cookies and browser local storage for authentication sessions, user preferences, bookmarks, and shopping list data. We do not use tracking cookies for advertising. You can clear local storage via your browser settings.

7. Push Notifications

If you grant notification permission, we may send you alerts about recipe updates, reviews on your recipes, and payout notifications. You can revoke permission at any time from your browser settings or from Notifications → Settings within the app.

8. Data Security

  • All data transmitted over HTTPS with TLS 1.3
  • Bank account details encrypted at rest using AES-256
  • Access controls and audit logs for admin operations
  • Regular security reviews

9. Children's Privacy

Our platform is not intended for users under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If we become aware of such data, we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy periodically. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-app notification at least 30 days before they take effect.
